Overview:
Musculoskeletal physiotherapy needs to move towards a broader biopsychosocial understanding of musculoskeletal conditions and the delivery of high-value care for people with persistent pain conditions, in which a patient-centered approach is a key feature.
However, it has been reported that clinicians experience difficulties with integrating patient-centered care principles into their clinical practice.
Objectives:
The objective of this online course is to provide knowledge, practical insights, and tools regarding providing patient-centered care in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
Speaker Bio:
Dr Nathan Hutting is an associate professor at the HAN University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. He also works as a physiotherapist and manual therapist in a private practice. He is a board member of the Dutch Association for Manual Therapy, is the member organisation delegate of the Netherlands to the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT), and is a member of the scientific college physical therapy of the Royal Dutch Society for Physical Therapy (KNGF).
His current research topics include long-term conditions, musculoskeletal conditions, self-management, patient-centered care, shared decision making, occupational health, work-focused healthcare, vascular conditions and safe treatment of the cervical spine. Nathan has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, has made many national and international presentations and chaired focused symposia at three World Physiotherapy congresses. He is also an associate editor of BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders and a member of the International Advisory Board of Musculoskeletal Science and Practice. Nathan is also a member of the Word Physiotherapy 2023 Congress programme committee.
